In 2014, it was signed into proclamation that October is the official Colorado Safe Schools Month. This focus allows schools and communities across the state to educate and focus on school safety within their unique communities.
An action in this year’s Teaching and Learning Plan is to convene a Personalized Competency Based Learning (PCBL) Team. As the district continues to evolved its instructional practices to support personalized learning based on individual competency, it is critical to have parents and our community involved in this process. To that end, we are seeking representatives of each school and stakeholder group.
A few years ago, 9-R introduced the BRAVO! Award program for staff, which was a fun and easy way to recognize all the great work our staff does daily for our students, families and schools. To build upon the success of that program, Durango School District 9-R is also celebrating our amazing students with the BRAVO! Junior Award program.
We rolled out the red carpet on Friday to welcome back staff for the new school year with a 9-R Academy Awards theme. Thank you to everyone who helped to make 9-R Convocation a success including our sponsors!
We wanted to inform our families about a community meeting that will be held tonight regarding the Lightner Creek Fire. The county emergency manager and members from the Type II Emergency Management Team will provide updates on the fire, evacuation and pre-evacuation notices and address community concerns around the fire. The meeting will begin at 5:00 pm at Escalante Middle School, located at 141 Baker Lane, Durango, CO 81301.
