Kaitlyn O'Sullivan, M.A.
Hello! My name is Ms. Kaitlyn and I am beyond excited to serve as the new K-5 school counselor at TJS. A little bit about me--I have been living in Durango for just under 4 years and in the San Juans for 6. I have a diverse professional background in the outdoor industry, education and mental health. I completed my Masters in Counseling through Adams State University this Spring with a focus in Elementary School Counseling.
Role of the School Counselor
The role of the school counselor is a special one within the school building. I will be teaching social-emotional lessons through our Habits of the Heart curriculum as well as helping to implement the use of our mindfulness and restorative justice practices. I am here to bridge the connection between our staff, families and students. I will be forming small student groups throughout the year based on common struggles, academic skill practice and social skills. In addition, I will be on the team facilitating students on specialized plans such as RTI’s, 504’s and ALP’s.
