5,4,3,2,1....SUMMER!
What an incredible year it has been!  We have 5 more, FULL, fun, busy days of the 2017-2018 school year left!  Students will be engaged in many wrap-up, end of the year reflections and projects! Don't miss all the events happening in your child's specific classroom. 
We also have Field Day on Thursday May 24 from 11-2:30pm.  (Check with your classroom teacher to confirm end of the day pick up for Field Day). PARENT VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED TO HELP WITH GAMES!!!!! Contact JPAC at juniperjpac@gmai.com
 
Juniper Park Days: We will offer Juniper Park Days again this summer for families to get together and play! Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the June, July and August from 4-6pm families can meet at Fassbinder/Triangle park to stay connected all summer!
 
PARENTS...Name That Room!
Moving to a Mixed-Age Classroom allows us to re-name classrooms!  
Gone are days of grade level names of 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 5th grade...We are going PRIMARY, INTERMEDIATE and UPPER Elementary.  But those are not very fun names! We need your help in giving our classrooms a name! Parents get this honor!!  SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS HERE!
 
Ice Cream Social: 
Thank you so much to everyone who came to the Powerhouse Science Museum for our Ice Cream Social Event!  Is was so fun spending the day with everyone, eating ice cream, listening to great music and doing fun science experiments! If you were unable to attend, we do have your child's bowl at school for pick up. Please see Ms. Aruna: May 25th will be the last day to pick up bowls!
 
YEARBOOKS!!! Last Call...Get your 2017-2018
May 21, 22 and 23 will be the last days to order your yearbook!!! There will be a sales table in the front entry during these 3 days. 
ALL yearbooks will be delivered to students on May 24 and 25.  If you prefer to pick up your yearbook (instead of your child having it at school) please arrange that with Ms. Aruna prior to May 24
 
Before School Club:  
As we consider shifting our school hour times, we also want to consider how this will impact families that need to drop children off early before school. We would like your feedback on the option of a Before School Club.  Please fill out this survey:  SURVEY LINK

WE LOVE OUR TEACHERS!!!!Thank you to JPAC, the parents and students that showed their appreciation for our teachers this week! You all made Teacher Appreciation week very special!


Don't Miss the Ice Cream Social!  

Saturday May 12 from 1-3pm at the Powerhouse will be our Spring Fundraiser to support our Electives Program!
Purchase your child's homemade clay bowl and receive ice cream scoops! 

 


School Hours and Morning Survey!

We want your input! We are considering changing the daily school hours for the 2018-2019 school year.  At Saturdays fundraiser we will be passing out paper ballots for you to vote on school hours.  A later start time may support families that find the 8am start challenging, our bus does not arrive until 8:15am and does not leave until 3:35pm.  These factors contribute to students missing learning time. These challenges have opened up the conversation of changing the time.  Morning supervision would still begin at 7:45am with breakfast. Look for those ballots!  Look out for a parent survey in an effort to support families that have very early mornings we are also considering a, for pay, morning club option.  Fill out the survey to communicate your needs to us.

May 18th Morning Assembly!

We will wrap up an amazing school year with our last Friday assembly. Join us at 8:15am in the cafeteria for a special assembly to recognize staff and students!
Following the assembly, all volunteers are invited to a volunteer breakfast at 9am in the 5th grade classroom. 

 

Job openings!

Please spread the word...we are still looking for a couple amazing teachers to join our team! We are hiring a half time Special Education Consultant and an Upper Elementary Classroom Teacher. 


Field Day Sack Lunch!

Please don't forget  if your student(s) needs a sack lunch provided by the cafeteria to return the bottom half of the flyer to Ms. Aruna by Monday, May 14th.

​Happy Friday Families, 

  Wow, we are sure on our way to the end of the school year. Only 3 more weeks left.  As the year wrap  up  the school year, we have a few fun activities and announcements to share with you.

  • Exciting News for 2018-2018!  Read through the yellow brochure on TJS Mixed Age Model.  Join the Q & A on May 7 at 11:30am through this link:  Mixed Age Model Q&A Link. If you miss it, it will be recorded and posted to juniper.durangoschools.org

 

  • No School on Thursday, May 10th for Professional Development. 3rd and 4th grade families it is your turn to help provide teachers with lunch. Please sign up using this link: May 10th Sign up!

 

  • ​The TJS Fundraising Committee is excited for the Ice Cream Social fundraiser on May 12th. It is from 1-3pm at the Powerhouse Science Center at the Plaza. The students created amazing bowls with the Seed Studio and these will be available for purchase at the event. 

 

  • Join us for our First Annual Field Day! This event has been coordinated by JPAC and will be held on may 24th at Buckley Park.  The students will be having a picnic lunch from 11-12:30 and after will be field and water games from 12:30-2:30pm. Volunteers are needed for this event. Use the link to sign up: Field Day Sign Up.  Please check in your child's Friday Folder for the flyer which includes a a tear off section for sack lunches provided from the cafeteria.  This is due to Ms. Aruna by May 11th.

 

  • ​Our Yearbook Elective Class along with Ms. Hallie created our inaugural yearbook. They are available for pre- sale now for $20 and will arrive on May 21st for pick up.

April 6th School Wide Newsletter

 

 

Happy Spring! ​ April is here and so the count down to the end of the year. There are many great thing going on the next 7 weeks at Juniper. Please make sure to check them out!

 

Creativity Festivity:  Stop by the Durango Art Center on 8th Street to see our "School of Fish"!  Thank you to our art partners, Seed Studio, for putting together an amazing art display! The Creativity Festivity runs from April 3-April 24! Check out More Here



School Conferences: Monday April 23, 1:45-6pm!  

PLEASE find your conference sign-up letter in Friday Folders TODAY!  For our Spring conferences we will have a combination of Teacher presentation and Student presentation. We have received feedback (thank you!) that more academic information is needed by parents. Classroom teachers will preview specific questions (SUBMIT YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!) and provide answers to your questions along with providing academic programming information for parents as well. This will be followed up by student-led presentations on their specific learning. Everyone MUST be on time for their conference spot (confirmation emails will be sent!) please. If you would prefer one-on-one meeting time with the classroom teacher(s), please email them a.s.a.p. to schedule that.  We look forwarding to sharing the immense growth of students and more about our innovative TJS curriculum.

March 9th School Wide Newsletter


Returning Student Registration: Please check your child's yellow Friday folder for registration information for next year.  Please fill this out and return as soon as you are able. 

Piano for Juniper:

  We have a Piano that someone has graciously donated to the Juniper Students. We are reaching out to see if 4-5 people are able to provide a truck and help transport it from Durango West to The Juniper School it would be a great help for us. Please email juniperfrontoffice@gmail.com to let us know days and times you can help in the next week. Thank you!

 

JPAC:

The next JPAC (Juniper Parent Action Committee) meeting will be held on Friday March 16th at 8am in the Juniper School cafeteria. Coffee and baked goods will be provided. Younger siblings are welcome to attend. We invite all Juniper parents to be a part of this essential support for the Juniper School! 


CMAS:

Safety Letter:

 Please read the letter in Friday Folders from our authorizer, 9r School District, regarding school safety and March 14 events. Please let us know if you have any questions!


PD day: 

On Thursday our staff engaged in 8.5 hours of professional, individualized training in our literacy program of REACH and our Montessori curriculum for Math. We had a delicious potato bar from kinder parents (Thank you!!) and left with TONS of resources, great assessment ideas and instructional activities!


Electives Update:

 TJS students are in the midst of their 5th session of electives with Session 6 (April 2-May 11). Some exciting electives coming in are the Jungle Gym Ninjas, Martial Arts, Drama, Running Club and many more diverse options.  Please be on the look out for a survey on how we are doing with our electives program coming your way in May!  As this is a TJS unique program, there is no model or template but is complete design by TJS staff.  We want feedback on what you think!
