Colorado Releases Updated Public Health Order to Include Other Critical Services

DENVER - Today Gov. Polis and the Department of Public Health and Environment are releasing an updated public health order in accordance with yesterday’s executive order implementing a statewide stay-at-home order.

The public health order was updated to include a number of critical services such as:

  • K-12 public and private schools for the purpose of providing meals, housing, facilitating or providing materials for distance learning, and providing other essential services to students.
  • Postsecondary institutions including private and public colleges and universities for the purpose of facilitating distance learning or performing essential functions, provided that Social Distancing Requirements are observed, such as security, medical and mental health service, housing, food service, and critical research
  • Pastoral services for individuals who are in crisis or in-need of end-of-life services
  • Houses of worship may remain open, but must practice social distancing or use electronic platforms
  • Professional services, such as legal, title companies, or accounting services, real estate appraisals and transactions

All services included in the public health order are subject to social distancing requirements and are still encouraged to implement telework options and staggered schedules when possible. Businesses that have temporarily closed under the order can continue Minimum Basic Operations to protect assets. Read the updated order here

Hello Juniper Families!
Our staff will be making calls again today to all of our families in order to see what we can do to support you during this time and to prepare for remote learning.

Detailed information will be coming out on Wednesday (3/25) from the school staff, regarding the Juniper remote learning process and plan, staff daily office hours, online counseling for students and families and contact information...stay tuned for that! As some of our families also have students in other 9R schools, you may be receiving information from 9r regarding remote learning. Please know that each school will be providing individual information.  For your Juniper student, please review Juniper-specific information coming directly from your classroom teacher team, our counselors and electives department!

Juniper will be offering paper materials, school supplies and Chromebook device checkouts for our families.  Every Wednesday from 12-1pm and again from 5-6pm, staff will be handing out materials.  If you are in need or have requested these items, here is how you can pick up:
  • Pull through the alley with the main TJS entrance/doors
  • Remain in your car
  • Tell staff your grade level(s): Primary, Intermediate or Upper. You will be handed those materials.
  • Tell staff if you need a chromebook. You will be handed a Technology Usage Agreement form to fill out, sign and hand back.  You will be provided 1 Chromebook and charger per family. (the form is attached here if you would like to fill it out ahead of time)
  • A weather safe container will also be located at this entrance daily. If you have assignments or forms you need to return to the school, you will place them in this container.
  • At this time no students or families are allowed into the school building.
ALL PRIMARY STUDENTS in Pika and Aspen Daisy are expected to pick up paper learning packets on Wednesday March 25 at 12-1pm or 5-6pm . Please let your teacher know if you are unable to pick up!

As a staff committed to supporting our families through life and learning,  we are here for you!  Our staff is working intensively to create remote learning opportunities that are manageable, engaging and equitable for all of our families.  Stay well! - Katie and the TJS Staff
Dear Juniper Families-

To help mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Colorado, on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, Colorado Governor Jared Polis ordered that all public and private schools across the state suspend in-person learning from March 23 to April 17Juniper is under the directive of our authorizer, Durango 9R School district and will follow the systems put in place to benefit our students, families and staff.  Decisions that will take affect after April 17, will be made and communicated prior to April 17th  and with plenty of notice.

Closing school is a hard decision and provides great challenges to our students, families and staff.  Juniper will do all we can to support one another during this time.  We will maintain our values as a school community to honor and value our families, students and staff as equal partners in education.  We will maintain a growth-mindset and put our community above our individual needs. We will maintain our shared value of social, emotional and mental self-care and balance as priorities.  We will make decisions with the safety and well-being of our students, families and staff at the forefront.  We will maintain our deeply established relationships with all stakeholders to move through this time with grace, support and patience.

Juniper is continuing to organize a remote learning plan to start on March 25 for students, and will continue with this opportunity until April 17. Please be patient as we, as a staff, work out the most supportive and reasonable plan for families and staff.  Our staff will be available on a regular basis to our families during closure, as will our Head of School and Front Office.  On March 25, we will be communicating these these schedules and how to communicate with us.  Student-led Conferences scheduled for March 30-31 will be postponed.

We will be sending out regular emails to students and families email addresses and posting on the Juniper website, all communications and remote learning resources. Please rest assured, that our staff will walk you through directions, navigation and trouble-shooting when we start.

In addition, the district will continue to provide grab and go food services to students throughout the same period. Any student up to age 18 can receive breakfast and lunch by completing a request form on www.durangoschools.org/meals or calling Valerie Bareis in Nutrition Services at (970) 259-1630 ext. 2041. Pick up locations are on the district’s website.

If you are a health care provider or first responder, the district is offering childcare by completing the following survey:
