Football Season 2020 Recap

The Demons had a 0-3-1 record in State Championship games prior to Saturday. The closest they came to a Championship was in 1954 when they played in class A and were co-champions with Lamar High School. The final score of the ‘54 game was 7-7. At the time, high school football didn’t allow overtime, so the Demons ended up as Co-Champions with Lamar. The last time the Demons made it to state was in 1988 against Grand Junction, but Durango came up short, so this is the first outright championship for the Demon football team.

Nifty Nanny to Offer Remote Learning Support and Enrichment Program

9-R Transportation Guidelines 2020/21

Durango School District 9-R Transportation Department will be making changes to routes in the 2020-2021 school year.

To ensure social distancing and in accordance with Colorado Department of Education and Federal guidelines concerning COVID-19 the Transportation Department will operate all buses at fifty percent (50%) capacity. This will mean a seventy-eight passenger bus will now transport 39 students at a time.

ABC Award Winners!

We were so excited to partner with McDonald's in recognizing our amazing teacher’s for going “Above and Beyond the Call,” or ABC, with an ABC Award, which includes a cash prize of $500 for a lucky teacher at each school site!

We received many wonderful and heartwarming nominations from parents throughout the community who were blown away by their efforts to adjust their instruction to meet kids at home during the COVID-19 closure.

Juniper School Cohort to Quarantine

On November 2, 2020 9-R was notified by San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) that an individual at the Juniper School tested positive for COVID-19. The school and the district are working proactively with SJBPH to make the appropriate notifications and next steps for those who may have been in close contact with this individual.

Pediatric Partners of the Southwest To Provide Medical Oversight of DHS School-Based Health Clinic

Pediatric Partners of the Southwest will assume operations as the medical provider for the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) at Durango High School effective July 1, 2019.


The School-Based Health Centers have been a partnership between Durango School District 9-R and Axis Health System (AHS) for the last 12 years. AHS and 9-R worked closely over the years to develop the SBHC model of supports and services for students and youth in the area, providing high-quality and accessible healthcare to La Plata County. Pediatric Partners of the Southwest (PPSW) is well positioned to assume the medical sponsorship and direct health care services at the Durango High School SBHC.
