Our Philosophy, Vision and Mission

As one of the strongest, oldest species of trees on the planet, the juniper is revered by cultures around the world, celebrated for its myriad uses and mystical form. Its resiliency inspires who we are and what we strive toward. What part of Juniper are you?
To foster quality educational experiences for all students and their families of our community.

The Juniper School is committed to building an authentic, diverse and active learning environment for the children of our community, through the establishment of a free, public, charter elementary school.

Durango Schools of Choice values a 21st Century Educational Structure, the Celebration of Diverse Learners and Authentic Assessments.
Culture, Character, and Being Juniper!
Habits of the Heart
Character building through specific, school-wide traits and positive behaviors that are explicitly taught, recognized, and reflected on by students, staff, and stakeholders:
Respect  •  Responsibility  •  Gratitude  •  Authenticity  •  Courage  •  Perseverance
Restorative Justice
At The Juniper School, we use Restorative Justice Practices as part of our school community and culture. It shapes our MTSS process, including Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 behaviors. Our classrooms incorporate connection circles and peacemaking circles into their daily routine. Using Restorative Justice Practices helps us balance all parts of who we are as people.
The Restorative Approach supports relationship building and problem-solving. We do this by:
  • Developing a plan of action
  • Getting acquainted
  • Addressing issues and visions
  • Building understanding and Trust
