New Project Updates
Miller Middle School
The Design Advisory Group is in place and has held three meetings, with a third scheduled for late January.
The programming portion of the design process is complete, and the schematic design phase is beginning.
The geotechnical study is in progress, Trautner Geotech completed drilling over winter break, with initial findings and recommendations expected by the end of January.
Research is being conducted to identify best strategies to address hazardous material removal during the demolition of the existing Miller Middle School.
Career and Innovation Center
The programming portion of the design is complete and the schematic design phase is beginning.
The Design Advisory Group resumes meeting weekly (after the holiday break) for the schematic design phase of the project. Student involvement has been a great feature of this design phase with a student providing some of the key guiding principles.
Renovation Project Updates
Vestibules
Design development is completed and under review for the vestibule projects at Park, Fort Lewis Mesa, Sunnyside, and Florida Mesa Elementary Schools, Escalante Middle School, and Durango High School (DHS). DHS, Escalante Middle School, Needham and Animas Valley Elementary schools have been identified as Summer 2022 priority projects.
The District is pursuing a BEST grant for additional funding.
Contract negotiations are in progress for a construction manager/general contractor.
Roofing
Bid documents are nearing completion, and Invitation to Bid packages are being prepared for Summer 2022 general roof repairs and maintenance at: Park, Fort Lewis Mesa, Sunnyside, and Needham Elementary Schools.
Florida Mesa and Riverview Elementary Schools, Escalante Middle School and Durango High School roof projects will occur in a future summer.
Asphalt / Concrete
Construction documents and Invitation to Bid packages are being prepared for projects at several schools.
- Animas Valley ES: west trail and concrete repairs
- Needham ES: tennis court removal for parking lot and circulation improvements
- Riverview ES: playground asphalt maintenance
- Sunnyside ES: parking lot repairs
- Escalante MS: parking lot repairs
Durango High Schools Improvements
A contract for the Construction Manager/General Contractor role has been executed with Jaynes Corporation.
Schematic Design is set to begin with the Career and Innovation Center for coordination with the parking lot design.
The scope includes HVAC upgrades, accessibility issues, doors and lockers, interior finish repairs, and parking lot improvements
Needham Elementary School Improvements
Design Development is in progress which includes select HVAC upgrades, doors and windows, interior finish repairs, and select flooring repairs.
Construction Manager/General Contractor contract negotiations are in progress.
Park Elementary School Improvements
Construction Documents in progress, the scope includes select HVAC upgrades, exterior/interior finish repairs, select flooring replacement, kitchen improvements, exterior door and window improvements

Sunnyside ES Improvements
Design Development is in progress, the scope includes HVAC upgrades, door and window improvements, and interior finish repairs.
Construction Manager/General Contractor contract negotiations are in progress.
Transportation
New buses have been ordered.
Charter Schools Allocation
All contracts are in place with each Charter School.
Juniper Elementary School has withdrawn 63% of their available funds.
- Mountain Middle School has withdrawn 45% of their available funds.
- Animas High School has withdrawn 79% of their available funds.
