Facility Updates and Information

We have officially closed on our building and TJS is proud owners of 225 Sawyer Drive and the 4 acres on the property as well!!!  The Juniper Board of Directors and Juniper Building Corporation will be hearing public bids next week and selecting a contractor to get started!  We wanted to provide some additional information for questions that we have been receiving as well.
  • Transportation: We will continue to provide transportation to and from school through the Durango 9R school district bus service.  In August, parents can contact the transportation department for their individual route.
  • Food Services: We will continue to partake in the food service program through the Durango 9R School district which will provide nutritious food options for our students of all levels of financial status.
  • Electives: We will continue to offer our amazing electives program that offers diverse music, movement and arts experiences for all of our students.  Mr. Andy has already coordinated with our valued electives instructors and partners to schedule and organize electives for the 2020-2021 school year!  Again- if you are interested in providing an elective, please contact Mr. Andy!
  • Multi-purpose Rooms: The new TJS will have 2 multi-purpose rooms, 1 in the main building and 1 in the Upper Campus (the modulars). These rooms will be used for electives, as the cafeteria/dining space and for special events.

Next steps!  Here are the tasks our board is working on for next action steps:
  • Selecting custodial services
  • Integrated Technology services
  • Identifying an in-town location for optional drop-off/pick-up in addition to regular bus routes as an offer of convenience for families
  • Food Services: we will be detailing out delivery, schedules for lunch and menus
  • Negotiating our new Charter Contract with Durango 9-R Authorizer

Playground Update:

We were so grateful for Inspire Week!!!!  We had 15 Animas High School sophomores, guided by advisors Lori Fischer and Tina Hott, designing and planning the new TJS outdoor space.  Thank you to the parents, teachers, and students that participated in the focus groups and online survey -- the AHS students were able to gain lots of ideas and information to put into their design. Our goals were to design an outdoor space that aligns to our Mission, Vision, Values to provide outdoor opportunities for imaginative play, integrated art and music, purposeful garden spaces, large and fine motor play, games, some equipment, safe spots and much much more…..!!!  The AHS team presented their design to TJS on March 6th.
A special thank you to Ferol Johnson with Colorado Stonescape; Kelsey Reeder and Jim Dyer as garden design experts!
Check out the construction progress at the New School!!!
