Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Consultant Job Description


Job Title:  ESS Consultant Pay Grade: Lead Teacher 

                    Salary Schedule

Job Family:  Staff FLSA Status:  Exempt

Department:  School Prepared Date:  October 2020

Typical Work Year:  10 months Employment Status: At-will


Summary: The ESS Consultant, with the support and supervision of the Head of School, will establish and maintain a quality special education program which follows the school's philosophy and pedagogy regarding students with exceptional needs.The program will be in compliance with local, state and federal law.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the safety and well-being of all students in your care at all times.
  • Create and execute individual education plans (IEP) for all appropriate students at TJS. May also write and manage 504 and RtI plans.
  • Schedule, organize, prepare and facilitate IEP meetings.
  • Organize and provide interventions (direct and indirect services) for identified ESS students. Train interventionist(s) to provide services as needed.
  • Communicate with staff and family members about ESS student goals and accommodations.
  • Maintain current records on all ESS students and provide upon request.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all student records.
  • Follow all school and board policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook and the school's Rules and Regulations.  
  • Follow all standards in accordance with Federal and Colorado laws and regulations as well as the Board of Education policies.
  • Any additional duties as determined by the Head of School.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Special Education Endorsement or Master’s Degree in Special Education required

Recommended Endorsements

  • Certification and/or experience in design and implementation of intervention (math and ELA)

Experience

  • Experience working with ESS students (exceptionalities may include autism spectrum, ADD and ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental delays and behavioral issues)

Technical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong decision making, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse needs at various levels.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively in a team setting.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate department.
  • Ability to implement support plans.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to use hands, reach with hands and arms, and stoop or kneel for average periods of time. Must be able to talk and hear.  Must be able to push, pull or carry up to 50 pounds at any given time. Must be able to work in a moderate to loud environment.

Reporting Relationship

Position reports to the Head of School.
