Outdoor Adventure Ed and PE
Ms. Mel

melMy name is Mel and I'm super excited to be the new PE and Outdoor Education Teacher at Juniper. I was born and raised in Australia where I studied Outdoor Education and spent many years guiding programs for Aussie schools. I first ventured across to the US in the summer of 2007, where I worked at a summer camp teaching water skiing and running their expedition program. From there I had a taste of the states and embarked  back to back winters for many years before moving  here permanently in 2019. I am a mother to a beautiful 8 year old daughter and together we love to adventure in the great outdoors!

Art and Graphic Design
Ms. Kailyn

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, where I found my love for art within the community around me. I moved to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College, where I received my bachelor’s degree in studio art and a minor in art history. Working alongside a mentor at the Durango Arts Center, I got to assist in after school art classes and knew I had found my calling. My connections with art teachers have always been very important to me, and drove my love for school. I knew that I wanted to return that feeling to others, and now I have the opportunity to do that for the Juniper students. The growing creative community in Durango is inspiring and helps me push myself as an artist. When I’m not creating art I like to hike, especially to alpine lakes, spend time on my paddle board, and hangout with my dog, Starla. This will be my second year teaching art, but my third year working at the Juniper School. I’m looking forward to a fun and creative year with all of Juniper's amazing artists!
